What Should I Pack?
First off, you should know that you are going to be hot. Even at night, it can still be quite warm. Your sweat glands may get a workout, but the tradeoff is the experience of being in a unique beach setting and collecting data on one of earth's most unique creatures, the Loggerhead sea turtle! Wicking shirts, if you have them, might be useful if that would make you more comfortable. Leave the wool mittens at home, but a sweatshirt might be handy!
Below is a suggested packing list. All gear must be packed in an easily stowable form, such as a duffel or backpack. Fine luggage is not recommended. Because rain or salt spray can soak baggage on a boat ride, you should use a large plastic garbage or lawn bag as an inner liner for your duffel (plastic bags on the outside of a duffel will tear). Please limit your gear to a manageable amount: one large duffel bag and a smaller, carry-on type bag should hold everything you will need. Camera tripods, etc. can be accommodated separately.
Please remember, there is NO store on Wassaw Island. You should bring extra batteries, film, and extra can of insect repellent, etc. with you. We have first-aid supplies, but if you will require any special medication, such as an Epi-Pen, please make sure to bring it!
