Greetings, Turtle Lovers! We have missed you this year!
Navigating our way through Covid-19 this year has been new and strange for everyone, except for the loggerhead turtles who have returned to Wassaw in strong numbers to lay nests and see their species survive.
While forced to cancel our volunteers for the season, the show still went on. Our skeleton crew of marine biologists has shown amazing dedication as they continued their work to conserve Wassaw’s sea turtles. Despite cutting back our crew, our expenses did not change. Now, more than ever, we need your support and sponsorship for the CRP, the longest running continuous loggerhead research program in the United States.
The CRP’s annual fundraiser, a magical al fresco ‘Night on the Bluff,’ was not possible to do this year. Instead, we have created two events that are unique, personal and socially responsible.
The first event is a Concert on the River, featuring the Rolling Stones tribute band ‘Monkey Man’ from a dock on the Herb River on September 19th, and we invite you to make a donation, attend by boat and anchor in the river to enjoy the band, while practicing social distancing.
We will be filming this ‘Concert on the River,’ to be edited to a 1-hour Virtual Concert Fundraiser that will take place online on October 21st. This virtual event, in combination with sponsorships, donations and an online auction, will allow us to connect with supporters near and far. With your participation, we can continue to responsibly raise funds for the research and protection of the turtles in our own backyard on the Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge. For more details of these events, please see the Save the Dates invitation.
We are so grateful for any amount you can provide and please rest assured that ALL proceeds go directly to the operations of the Caretta Research Project and the hands-on research, conservation and education programs designed to protect our loggerhead sea turtles.
On behalf of CRP’s staff and Board of Directors, we thank you for your generosity and for supporting the Caretta Research Project.
We hope to see you on the river on September 19th and again virtually on October 21st to celebrate the turtles!
Sincerely yours,
Kris Williams, Caretta Research Project Executive Director (wassawcrp@aol.com)
Ruth Weimar, Board of Directors President (ruth.weimar@yahoo.com)
