A number of years ago I was browsing through a book about Volunteer Vacations and selected the Caretta Resesarch Project. My plan was to choose a new project each year. It has now been fifteen years since my first week at Wassaw, and I never made to any of the other projects--I am still returning to Wassaw! Not only have I had many years of wonderful experiences on this exciting project, but I began taking teenagers from my community in Washington DC with me. For a group of young people from the city to develop a connection with this beautiful place and with these wonderful turtles was the experience of a lifetime. The enthusiasm and support of the Caretta staff and their willingness to share their knowledge with us kept us returning year after year. All of us are proud to have had the opportunity to participate in this important work. Spending a week with the sea turtles and staff of Wassaw Island is a magical and unforgettable experience!
